Oscar-winning movie star Emma Stone is the latest celebrity to purchase a home in Austin, according to Dirt.com. The real estate website reported on Wednesday, April 13 that Stone sneakily purchased an estate in Central Austin for an undisclosed amount last May.
Texas assessments show the 1.2-acre property was last valued at just over $4 million. However, Dirt.com noted it was likely in the $7 to $8 million range, if not even more.
Records show the sellers were commercial real estate baron C. Patrick Oles, Jr., a native Texan, and his longtime wife Julie, who originally acquired the estate in 1997. The Oleses sold the property to a business entity tied to Craig Tessler, who is reportedly Stone’s Los Angeles-based business manager.
Stone joins other celebrities who made the move from Hollywood to Texas, like actor James Marsden, who is known for his role as Scott Summers/Cyclops in the X-Men franchise . The actor paid an around $1.8 million for a five-bedroom, 5,160-sqaure-foot house in the Commons Ford area in Austin.
Bennifer, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, also rented a luxury condo in Austin when Affleck filmed the new Robert Rodriguez movie, Hypnotic, in September 2021.
In June 2021, the New York Times also published an article about three Hollywood celebrities who traded California, specifically Los Angeles, for Texas, specifically Austin. The piece documented three wealthy white women — Glee actor Becca Tobin; Hillary Duff’s sister, Haylie; and The Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler, all of whom are drawn to the Lone Star State for its “small-town hospitality and everyday conveniences.”
