The latest iOS software update is all about enhancing the overall security of your iPhone.
Just a week after releasing the major iOS 18.3 update, Apple has now issued an urgent security update—iOS 18.3.1—on Monday for all eligible iPhones. This update contains patches that fix critical security vulnerabilities found in Apple iPhones.
For users already on iOS 18.3, the iOS 18.3.1 update is approximately 450 MB in size and includes a patch for a new zero-day exploit that could potentially allow law enforcement to unlock an iPhone.
“A physical attack may disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals,” Apple stated in its latest security release update.
With the iOS 18.3.1 update, Apple ensures that even if an iPhone undergoes a physical attack, the disabled USB Restricted Mode and the ability to transmit data have been patched.
While this update does not introduce any new features, it effectively closes a major security loophole, making it a crucial update for iPhone users. The update is available for iPhone XS and newer models.
If your iPhone is eligible for the iOS 18.3.1 update, installing it as soon as possible is highly recommended.
A similar iPadOS 18.3.1 update is also available for the following iPad models: iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (7th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later). This update addresses the same vulnerability, ensuring these devices remain safe and secure.
