The band showed their respect for Deadpool during a Korean TV appearance in 2021, initiating a shared admiration between them and actor Ryan Reynolds.
The track list for Deadpool and Wolverine’s soundtrack was revealed by Marvel Entertainment on Wednesday, featuring a long-awaited inclusion. An apparently unreleased song titled “Slash” will be contributed to the soundtrack by Stray Kids, the eight-member K-Pop supergroup. The boy group, which comes from the Korean company JYP Entertainment, has a long-standing connection with Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds himself.
Stray Kids took part in the Korean music reality show “Kingdom: Legendary War” in 2021 and emerged as the winners. During episode 8, the male group performed an entertaining mash-up of their popular track ‘God’s Menu’ and Blackpink’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’. Felix paid tribute to Deadpool by dressing up as Reynolds and kicked off the show with a lively monologue that reminded everyone of a scene from the movie.
Reynolds was shared the video by fans of the K-Pop group, leading to mutual admiration between the two actors after fans commented “Oh @stray_kids.” Over the last few years, there has been ongoing interaction between the group and Reynolds on social media. Bang Chan, the group’s leader, and his brother have also been featured in promotional moments for the movie “Free Guy,” and Bang Chan was interviewed as well.
Reynolds recently shared a video on social media featuring Felix and Bang Chan while promoting Deadpool & Wolverine with Hugh Jackman in South Korea. The video showcased Reynolds participating in the “passing the phone to” social media trend by declaring, “I’m gonna pass my phone here to my favorite Australian,” before ultimately passing it to Felix and Bang Chan, both of whom are also from Australia. The actor captioned the post with “As they say in Seoul: Chk Chk Boom,” in reference to the lead single from Stray Kids’ upcoming EP ATE.
Jackman himself will be among the other artists featured on Deadpool and Wolverine‘s soundtrack. “The Greatest Show,” a song from Jackman’s 2017 movie The Greatest Showman, where he plays P.T. Barnum, is one of the 18 songs included on the soundtrack. It’s still unclear how that will be integrated into the movie.
