Taylor Swift has famously written many songs with Joe Alwyn, but he’s not the only boyfriend she’s collaborated with.
Sadly, Taylor Swift has not been granted a lot of privacy when it comes to her romantic relationships. Maybe that’s the reason she writes so many songs about them, so that she can talk about what happened on her own terms. Some relationships have ended badly, while in other situations the separation was amicable. Regardless of that, though, she has gotten lots of amazing collaborations out of them.
Calvin Harris
Taylor Swift and DJ Calvin Harris dated for about a year between 2015 and 2016, and the pair seemed to have a beautiful relationship until things soured. For a long time after their breakup, they were not particularly friendly with each other. One good thing did come out of their time together, though. Readers will surely remember Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s hit song “This Is What You Came For.” Well, it was revealed in 2016 that Taylor had been one of the masterminds behind that song. She was the one that wrote most of the lyrics and even did some backup vocals for Rihanna, while Calvin wrote the music and produced it. Taylor decided to keep it a secret, though, and signed with the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg. That peculiar name appeared once again in Taylor’s video for the song “Look What You Made Me Do,” but in less cheerful circumstances. The pair has surely let go of old grudges by now, but at the time it was very dramatic. At least they got good music out of it.
John Mayer
If there’s a relationship that ended badly, that is John Mayer and Taylor Swift’s. The couple started out promising each other the world, only to end up publicly fighting in their breakup songs. But although they couldn’t make their romantic relationship work, there is no doubt that they had chemistry when it came to music. Years ago, in 2009, around the time they started dating, John Mayer asked Taylor to collaborate with him on his song “Half of My Heart.” His reasoning behind asking her to do this was that he couldn’t get the famous Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks duet out of his head, and he knew that she was the perfect choice.
“I woke up with the song in my head called ‘Half of My Heart, and the idea is that it’s this real sort of updated — not that it needs to be updated — sort of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks thing,” John Mayer explained. “I thought, ‘Well, if this is going to be my love letter to that style of music, who’s going to be the Stevie Nicks in this equation? And I thought, ‘This Taylor Swift girl is going to be around for a long time.'”
Lucas Till
Taylor and Lucas Till’s relationship was very short-lived, and one could almost call it an experiment. The two of them were very close and decided to give a relationship a try, but ultimately realized that they worked better as friends. They were a very nice couple on screen, though. They collaborated on Taylor’s video of the song “You Belong With Me,” but they had known each other for a while before, and that’s how Taylor knew he was the best man for the show.
“He’s absolutely perfect for the part and really fun to be around, too,” Taylor said, back when the video first came out. “(Lucas) was recently in the Hannah Montana movie,” she continued, “and I met him about a year back and just kind of reached out and was like, ‘Hey, want to be in the video?’ And he accepted, and I’m just really happy to have him in the video.”
Joe Jonas
Perhaps the thing readers will remember the most about the fleeting relationship between Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas is the famous 27-second phone call. Taylor shared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that Joe broke up with her with a phone call that lasted 27 seconds. They were both teenagers at the time, so of course neither of them knew how to handle a breakup, but they have since made up and are good friends.
Taylor didn’t write songs or work on a video or anything like that with Joe Jonas, but she did appear in the movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, a movie that follows several performances of the Jonas Brothers on their Burnin’ Up Tour. She appeared playing her song “Should’ve Said No.”
Joe Alwyn
Actor and songwriter Joe Alwyn has been dating Taylor for five years now, and fans believe this to be the singer’s best relationship to date. The couple seems to be as happy as they’ve ever been, and they enjoy being together so much that they decided they wanted to collaborate on music. In Taylor Swift’s Folklore, a cowriter by the name of William Bowery appeared and was later revealed to be a pseudonym for the actor. The songs Joe Alwyn cowrote in Folklore were “Betty” and “Exile,” and in Evermore he collaborated on “Champagne Problems,” “Coney Island,” and “Evermore.”
What’s Next For Taylor Swift?
Taylor Swift has been putting out more music than any other artist in the past couple of years. She released her album Lover in 2019, and the next year, during lockdown, she released two of her greatest pieces of work, Folklore and Evermore. But she didn’t stop there. In 2021, she re-recorded two of her older albums, Fearless and Red (Taylor’s Version). For the latter, she directed a short film based on the ten-minute version of her song “All Too Well,” and recently, she re-recorded the song “This Love” from 1989. This brought up rumors of a 1989 (Taylor’s Version) being in the works.
It is unknown when Taylor will be releasing new material, but if her last two albums are anything to go by, her love Joe Alwyn will be involved, and it will be another masterpiece.
