Tuberculosis has surpassed AIDS and became the leading infectious disease and the cause of death. On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration accepted the new approach. They approved the newest three drugs to cure the disease. The three-drug regimens cure the patient is just three months. There are almost 30,000 cases in over 100 countries that suffer from TB and only three-quarters of the patients get diagnosed before dying. Moreover, the cure rate for the patients that are diagnosed is only 34 percent.
The treatment for TB is extremely difficult. The regimen in South Africa required up to 40 pills daily which is taken for two years. Now, when talking about other countries, they follow even older regimen which includes daily injections of antibiotics. The antibiotics might have terrifying side effects like deafness, kidney failure, and psychosis. The pills contain three drugs which are as follows:
1. Pretomanid
2. Bedaquiline
3. Linezolid
In the trail, Ms. Msjmango joined Nix-TB and the patients took five pills daily a day for a continuous six months.
