It is now speculated that Apple’s next iPhone will have a titanium frame, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra.
To make the Pro series iPhones look distinctive from the regular iterations, Apple does quite a few things differently. This includes the use of a stainless steel frame, a more capable triple camera setup and even a better display when you opt for a Pro iPhone. According to the latest speculations, Apple is doing something very unique with the iPhone 15 Pro to make it look and feel more sturdy, premium and lightweight at the same time.
Leaks suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a titanium frame for the first time on an iPhone; possibly inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra. Currently, the iPhone 12 Pro, 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro series feature a stainless steel frame. While it makes them sturdier than regular models it also makes them heavy and bulky.
Besides a sturdier frame with the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple could also reintroduce slightly curved frames for a better in-hand feel. This also means that the iPhone 15 Pro could feature a curved display as opposed to the flat design of the iPhone 14 Pro series.
By using titanium frames on iPhone 15 Pro series Apple will not only make iPhones sturdier but also lighter due to the properties of titanium which despite being lighter than stainless steel offers more structural strength. However, titanium is more expensive than surgical-grade stainless steel used on iPhone 14 Pro. Hence, iPhone 15 Pro could cost more than its predecessor.
iPhone 15 Pro could be lighter than its predecessor
With the current generation of Apple Watch, the titanium frame has been limited to the Ultra option. However, on the Apple Watch Series 5, 6 and Series 7, the company used to offer devices in three different materials. The most affordable model had an aluminum frame while the mid-tier variant featured a stainless steel frame and lastly, the high-end model had a titanium frame.
Despite having a similar form factor, the aluminum Apple Watch Series 5 is the lightest among them while the stainless steel model is the heaviest and the titanium model sits between the two. This confirms that if iPhone 15 Pro comes with a titanium frame in a similar form factor as iPhone 14 Pro it could easily be lighter than its predecessor.
Titanium is not only lighter and sturdier than both stainless steel and aluminum but also scratch and corrosion-resistant making it the best material. However, due to higher material prices brands mostly stick to aluminum. It looks like Apple is going all-out with iPhone15 Pro. Hence, it’s speculated to pack a titanium frame, USB Type-C port, curved display and even said to pack a periscope zoom lens again first for an iPhone.
